Dukes Lose Road Game To Ohio, 73-60

Athens, Ohio - Leon Williams scored 12 of his 13 points during a key 16-3 second-half run to propel Ohio to a 73-60 win over Duquesne at Athens, Ohio. Mychal Green led four Bobcats in double figures with 17 points, while Duquesne’s Bryant McAllister and Jack Higgins scored a game high 18 points apiece.

With the score tied at 43-43 with 14:17 left, Williams took over, hitting a layup and converting six consecutive free throws as the Dukes missed six consecutive shots.

Duquesne’s DeVario Hudson snapped the 8-0 run with a layup to make the score 51-45, before the Bobcats’ Diamond Gladney answered with a bucket to make it 53-45. Hudson, who finished with nine points, hit one of two free throws before Ohio scored the next six to make it 59-46 with just under seven minutes to go.

Duquesne, which shot just 28.6 percent from the field in the second half, could get no closer than 10 the rest of the way. There were a total of 11 ties and eight lead changes - with neither team leading by more the six - prior to Ohio’'s game-deciding run.

Higgins scored 13 of his points in the first half to help the Dukes to a 30-30 tie at the break, but DU could not overcome a combination of poor shooting and Ohio’s domination on the glass. Williams finished with a game-high 18 boards as Ohio outrebounded Duquesne 48-23.

The Dukes turned it over just eight times to 17 for Ohio, but could only manage a slim 11-8 edge in points off turnovers. Ohio, which finished the game shooting 46.8 percent from the field, hit 25-of-30 free throws, while the Dukes shot 35 percent for the game an went 12-of-16 from the line.

Duquesne next heads to the second contest of this three-game road trip. Chestnut Hill, Mass. will be the site for a pre-Christmas afternoon matchup with undefeated Boston College (7-0) on Wednesday, December 22nd at 2:00 p.m.
