PITTSBURGH - Duquesne University head men's basketball coach Jim Ferry has announced the signing of 6-4 guard Josh Steel (Harlow, England/Barking Abbey Academy) to a National Letter of Intent.

Steel, a native of Harlow, Essex, England, is listed as the 32nd-best 1997-born prospect in Europe by

"Josh has the kind of size, length and versatility that will allow us to play him at multiple positions," said Ferry. "He has the ability to have an immediate impact on our program. He not only solidified our guard/wing position for next year, but for the future as well. He will be a tremendous asset to our team and the Duquesne community."

Steel, who has represented England at both the U18 & U16 Division B European Championships, averaged 13.0 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game in leading Barking Abbey to the 2015 Elite Academy Basketball League Elite 8 this past season. He was just the third British player to appear in the Jordan Brand Classic International Game, when he competed as a member of the European team at Brooklyn's Barclays Center in April of 2013. The game annually features the top U16 players in the world. He was named England Basketball Under-16 Player of the Year in April of 2014.

"I think we did a really good job of addressing some needs," said Ferry of the 2015-16 recruiting class. "Now that we've solidified the program, we can focus more on the next wave of Duquesne basketball. We were able to get three high-character kids with great size, length and versatility at their positions. We look forward to bringing them to campus."
